Dental Crowns and Bridges
Used to strengthen and restore a tooth to its full functionality and appearance. Also referred to as caps, crowns are custom made to fit over your entire tooth after the dentist has prepared it. Crowns are really a "continuous staple" to protect a tooth and hold it together. Dental Crowns are usually made out of plain gold or porcelain that has been fused to gold, or plain porcelain, to withstand biting pressure. Crowns can be used in cosmetic dentistry to treat teeth that are poorly shaped, badly decayed, fractured, chipped or discoloured. Crowns are also used in conjunction with implants to replace a lost tooth. Usually, a one and a half hour appointment is required for preparation, then two weeks later a half hour for cementation. Fees range from $1,700.00 for plain gold, $1,900.00 for plain porcelain, and $2,500.00 for an implant crown.
Bridges are commonly used to replace missing teeth and can be used to replace multiple teeth side by side. The bridge is attached to the healthy teeth on either side of the tooth/teeth being replaced which is why it is known as a bridge.
Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding with a surgical or invasive procedure, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
